Media Detective

Our computers are bombarded with inappropriate contents each day. Even if you don't actively search for pornographic contents, you can still receive all sorts of ads by email or something may pop-up on a web page, making your computer unsafe for children. If you want to make sure that your children will not stumble upon adult contents, while using your computer, you can clean it up with Media Detective. It can detect inappropriate images, videos, audio files and documents, as well as links, cookies and so on. Furthermore, the software performs content sensitive scans, which means that it can locate unsafe files, even if their names suggest something else.

The application's setup file is roughly 55 MB, which should not take too long to download with a modern Internet connection. The installation process is much faster and it does not involve any complex settings. Moreover, the software is not too demanding in terms of system requirements and you don't have to install any prerequisite tools or services.

When launched, Media Detective displays a compact interface, on which you can prepare a scanning process. The application allows you to choose between a quick scan, for common file types, a normal scan or a rigorous scan, which uses Media Detective's entire suite of tests, to detect any suspicious files. Alternatively, you can opt for a custom scan, which allows you to target entire partitions or single folders.

When the scanning is complete, the program will display the results as thumbnails or icons, on a different interface. Found images, videos, documents, audio files and Internet contents are categorized on separate tabs and you can preview the selected items on the left side of the window. Besides scanning for keywords, the program uses a nudity detection technology, to locate offensive material. Based on the quantity and distribution of skin tones, images are given a higher rating, if they are offensive or a lower rating if they are safe.

If Media Detective includes safe images among the results, you can adjust its suspicion filter and refresh the scan. Additionally, you can right click the listed files and select different options, to add them to a safe list, rename or delete them and more.
